Common questions

Vidayer plays video files you already have — on your device, in the Files app, or on your own servers — in their original format, with chapters, audio tracks and subtitles. It is a player, not a streaming service, and it includes no content.
On iPhone and iPad, tap the V button in the middle of the tab bar (or + in Library) and pick files from the Files app, including iCloud Drive and connected drives. You can also open a video from another app with Share → Vidayer. On Mac, use File → Import Videos… (⌘O), the Import button in the sidebar, or drag files onto the window.
Go to Sources → + → SMB. Servers on your Wi-Fi usually appear under “Found on your network”; otherwise enter the host name or IP address. In the path field enter the share name, optionally followed by a folder (for example Movies or Movies/2024). Enter your user name and password, or leave the user name blank for guest access, then tap Test and Save.
Sources → + → WebDAV or Jellyfin/Emby. For WebDAV enter the host and the path to the folder (for Nextcloud, /remote.php/dav/files/your-name). For Jellyfin or Emby enter the server address, such as jellyfin.local:8096 or https://media.example.com, plus your user name and password. Turn on Use HTTPS if your server supports it. Vidayer plays the original file; nothing is transcoded.
Automatic DLNA discovery depends on your network and device; if your server does not appear, choose DLNA and enter its description URL, which your server's settings usually show (for example http://192.168.1.20:8200/rootDesc.xml). Make sure Local Network access is allowed in Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → Vidayer.
Containers including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WMV, FLV, TS/M2TS, VOB, WebM and RM; video in H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1, MPEG-2/4 and ProRes; audio in AAC, AC-3, E-AC-3, DCA, MLP, FLAC, Opus, Vorbis and MP3; subtitles in SRT, ASS/SSA, WebVTT, PGS, DVD and DVB. Files protected with DRM (for example purchases or rentals from a store) cannot be played by any third-party app.
While a video plays, tap the screen and use Subtitles and Audio at the bottom. Styled ASS subtitles keep their fonts, colours and positions, including fonts embedded in MKV files. Forced and default subtitle tracks turn on by themselves. Change the subtitle size in Settings → Subtitles. With Vidayer Pro you can show a second subtitle language at the same time (for files played by the FFmpeg engine, such as MKV, AVI and TS).
A one-time purchase unlocks the poster grid, dual subtitles, A–B loop, the hidden vault behind Face ID or Touch ID, and iCloud sync. Everything else — every format, every source, no limits — stays free. Pro supports Family Sharing and works on iPhone, iPad and Mac with the same Apple ID.
Settings → Restore purchase, or Restore purchase on the Vidayer Pro screen. Make sure you are signed in with the Apple ID that bought Pro (or a Family Sharing member).
With Pro, turn on Settings → Sync → iCloud sync, then restart the app. Your library, progress and saved sources (not passwords) sync through your private iCloud. Videos stored on one device are not copied to the others; network sources need their password entered once on each device.
Space play/pause · ← / → skip · F or double-click the picture for full screen · Esc leaves full screen, a second Esc closes the player · , and . step one frame · [ and ] previous / next chapter.
Yes. Audio continues when you leave the app or lock the screen, with controls on the lock screen and in Control Center. Use Picture in Picture to keep watching while you do something else.
The error panel shows which engine tried the file. Check that the file opens on your computer and is not DRM-protected. For network files, make sure the server is reachable and that it supports HTTP range requests (WebDAV, Jellyfin and DLNA servers normally do). If it still fails, email us with the file's container, video and audio codecs (shown under the title in Library) and where the file is stored.
Email [email protected] with your device model, OS version, Vidayer version (Settings → About), and what you did and what happened. For playback problems, the file format and where it is stored (device, SMB, WebDAV, Jellyfin, Emby or DLNA) help a lot.
